Muse recorded the final version during sessions at Cello Studios in Los Angeles, where the band and producer Rich Costey worked through overdubs and mixing across three weeks in 2003. The song's real tension lives in its ending: the narrator repeats their vows, then adds a small, devastating addendum. The moment they've promised never to abandon never arrives.
