About This Track

Muse's apocalyptic opener to Absolution arrives as a layered construction of bass, synthesisers and insistent piano, building urgency through repetition. The song adopts the voice of someone calling for divine intervention, begging for a miracle to pull humanity through catastrophe. Matthew Bellamy repeats the refrain "this is the end of the world" with increasing desperation, each plea for salvation stacked atop the last. The track channels religious fervour and the desire for prophecy to be fulfilled, a perspective both earnest and pointed. A live version was later released as a digital single, with the majority of proceeds donated to Oxfam.
