Backwards Fireworks

Things are different than they appear
When they're seen through the rear view mirror
When the city was gone from sight
It turned to light

And the sky was alive in the windows
Fireworks were exploding around us
Shot from country towns to celebrate
That they are free
And we are free

In that moment all I could see
Were those burning highway effigies
And down from the lit up sky
They felt like mine
From a past life
