About This Track

'Winterlong' by Neil Young is a 1977 song from the album 'Decade'. The lyrics find a narrator who has waited for someone through what feels like an extended, wintry stretch, convinced they belong together, then undercut that certainty with the admission that things may go wrong. A central tension runs through the verses and bridge, moving from longing and illusion towards a harder prospect: if the love is gone, the future will be “not so easy”. The bridge then frames the act of waiting as difficult, even when it is cast as following someone through a dreamlike route.
