About This Track

'Right Now' runs on the momentum of a night out stretching into the early hours, the lyric built around absence and the wish for company. One Direction frame the scene with lights going down and voices in the street, the narrator caught between the thrill of the moment and the pull of someone not there. The chorus repeats the wish plainly: everything feels new, the feeling unavoidable, but the person who should be present isn't. The song sits within Midnight Memories, an album unafraid to wear its references boldly. Elsewhere on the record, the band nod to the strumming folk rock of Mumford & Sons and echo The Police and The Who, though 'Right Now' leans into a more straightforward pop-rock framework.
