About This Track

Released in August 2016 as the second single from OneRepublic's fourth studio album 'Oh My My', 'Kids' builds its chorus around a defiant refrain: the band's Ryan Tedder sings of refusing to romanticise youth simply because it's past. The verses sketch restless small-town nights, sleeping in cars, burning cigars, naming stars after friends, but the song's engine is forward-facing, a vow that the present won't dim just because the calendar moves. The production keeps the arrangement open and anthemic, guitar and synth layers lifting the track without crowding it. Tedder's vocal sits high in the mix, the melody designed for festival crowds and long drives alike. The bridge shifts the tense slightly, acknowledging that years burn and city lights turn, yet insisting something essential remains unchanged. It's a song about loyalty to a feeling rather than an era, the kind of track that soundtracks both memory and the refusal to live inside it. OneRepublic frame nostalgia as a choice to resist, not a state to inhabit.
