About This Track

Brendon Urie maps Los Angeles as a place of glamorous ruin, the track drawn from 'Death of a Bachelor' and built around the image of someone who wears the city's excesses without apology. The lyrics sketch a figure marked by hard living and astrological omens, bleached eyes and black tar palms, the neon coast and Mulholland Drive standing in for a West Coast mythology that refuses reform. Urie sings 'I wouldn't change ya', accepting the devotee's restless appetite for white wine at dusk and the hunt for a little more time beneath the Hollywood shine. The production leans into a bright, propulsive pop-rock framework, the chorus cycling through its title mantra with the insistence of a freeway loop. Released in late 2015 as the seventh track on the album, 'LA Devotee' arrived ahead of a music video in September 2016 that coincided with the announcement of the Death of a Bachelor Tour. The song treats the city as both muse and cautionary tale, a place where the evil eye watches sunsets and the high-rise lights read your rights, the devotion equal parts affection and warning.
