Phoenix and Clairo have shared a new version of 'After Midnight'
It's only the second time the French band have had a guest feature on a track.
About This Track
A song about constraint and the impossibility of escape, 'Lasso' traps its narrator in a cycle of longing and self-awareness. The title image is literal: someone bound, unable to move freely, yet still asking whether they might somehow collide with another person. Phoenix builds the track around this paradox, the repeated question "where would you go" becoming both a taunt and a plea. The lyrics move between accusation and confession. A partner is vain and diplomatically clumsy; the narrator is complicit, drawn into patterns they recognise as wasteful. There is no villain here, only two people caught in a loop of yes and no, attraction and resentment. The chorus refrain "could you run into me" suggests a longing for accident, for some force outside their control to bring them together again, as though chance might succeed where will has failed.
"Lasso" is a single by Phoenix, from the album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (Bonus CD), released 2009. The track is 2:48 long. It's filed under Rock. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 8 articles about Phoenix.
