About This Track
'Genesis.' is a portrait of depression and disconnection rendered with unflinching specificity. Raye traces the texture of modern isolation: the phone that promises connection but delivers only comparison, the validation that never arrives, the friends who drift away. She names the drugs, the sleeplessness, the self-loathing with clinical precision, moving between the mundane (Facetune, ring lights) and the acute (amphetamines, a fist full of pills). The song refuses easy catharsis. Instead it holds two truths at once: "I don't wanna be alive / But I don't wanna die." The production mirrors this tension. Verses build with mounting pressure, the lyrics stacking like intrusive thoughts, before the chorus opens into a plea for light that feels both genuine and desperate. Raye's voice moves between conversational and raw, at one moment addressing the listener directly, at the next turning inward to confront the figure in the mirror. Depression arrives as a visitor with a name; anxiety becomes a finger pressed to the lips. These aren't metaphors for effect. They're the grammar of a mind in crisis. If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, support is available through crisis services including text-based and phone helplines.
