About This Track
'Seoul' frames the city as both anchor and trap. RM moves through familiar streets in the cold dawn, the harmony of the metropolis so ingrained it has become his own. Yet familiarity breeds a complicated ache; he is already part of Seoul's fabric, absorbed into its exhaust and grey expression, and the thought terrifies him more than it comforts. The song turns on a linguistic pivot, the city's name hovering between "soul" and "Seoul", between spiritual essence and geographical fact. That ambiguity lets RM hold two truths at once: love and hate collapse into the same utterance. He catalogues the specific textures of home, the Han River's melancholy, the Cheonggyecheon stream's particular smell, the solitude of parks that masquerade as warmth, and admits, with something like resignation, that he has come to cherish even the things that repel him. His friends speak of leaving. He nods along but cannot laugh. He is already too much of this place to go.
