About This Track

'Actors' by Self Esteem is an alternative track from the album 'Compliments Please (Deluxe)', released in 2019. The lyrics hover between intimacy and doubt, with the singer returning to the idea of being unable to believe in someone, then asking whether they can be “real again”. There is a tense, self-questioning quality throughout, as missing someone and chasing dreams sit uncomfortably side by side. The repeated line about not believing underlines the emotional mismatch at the centre of the song.

"Actors" is a track by Self Esteem, from the album Compliments Please (Deluxe), released 1st March 2019. The track is 2:48 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Self Esteem.

Lyrics

Actors

One of these days it's gonna happen to you
Missing your life while my dreams come true
Remember you said not to believe in you?
Remember you said not to believe in you?

Can I hope you're real again, can you be true?
I saw you're feeling good, you wanted me to
I saw your eyes in mine, I felt them dig into my insides
You offer this life I'd like to live
But there's been a decision made
And things that keep me in place
Now I shake no more, I shake no more
There's been a decision made
And things that keep me in place
Now I shake no more, I shake no more

Want you to peel away more than my clothes
Take away everything, leave only the memories I can hold
When I was strong and true and inside me was only you
And I shook so hard, I shook so hard
My mind it was open wide to take whatever I could from life
And I shook so hard, I shook so hard

Gonna be eternally
Asking every lover I have
How they can say they love me
If I am so bad
Gone is the contender
I don't need no space
To me it isn't everything to just be okay

Oh when I was strong and true and inside me was only you
And I shook so hard, I shook so hard
My mind it was open wide to take whatever I could from life
And I shook so hard, I shook so hard

One of these days it's gonna happen to you
Missing your life while my dreams come true
Remember you said not to believe in you?
Remember you said not to believe in you?
One of these days it's gonna happen to you
Missing your life while my dreams come true
Remember you said not to believe in you?
Remember you said not to believe in you?
