About This Track

'Silver Screen' by Slowdive is on the 1996 album 'I Saw the Sun'. The lyrics cast an intimate, slightly mournful address to a sister, turning on the tension between imagined futures and the emotional residue of what was written. The chorus frames cinema as a dreamlike surface, with the line “watching the silver screen” setting the scene for that half-hopeful, half-heartbroken gaze.

"Silver Screen" is a track by Slowdive, from the album I Saw the Sun, released 1996. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 1 article about Slowdive.

Lyrics

Silver Screen

[Verse 1]

Kill the clouds, yeah

I thought the world would cry

Lose those tears

It's for the future now

You filled a life

It's all that left you

The words you wrote

They only made me cry

[Chorus]

'Cause watching the silver screen

It's the tip of a silver dream

Sister, you know you can't go on

Nothing left, it feels like this is gone

Watching the silver screen

Watching the silver screen

Watching the silver screen

[Verse 2]

Lost in words now

I'll make a brighter world

I wish you well

But Lord, you'll wish it more

Your stars are smiling

It makes you so serene

Your sugar lips

They make my fingers bleed

[Chorus]

'Cause watching the silver screen

It's the tip of a silver dream

Sister, you know it can't go on

Nothing left, it feels like this is gone

Watching the silver screen

Watching the silver screen

Watching the silver screen

Sister, you know you can't go on

Nothing left, it feels like this is gone

Watching the silver screen

Watching the silver screen

Watching the silver screen

Watching the silver screen
