About This Track

'Time (is)' threads together voices in a meditation on intimacy and vulnerability. Solange's vocals move through passages of quiet confession, asking for knowledge and presence from someone she's trying to hold close. Tyler, the Creator's contributions arrive as interjections, fragments of reassurance and uncertainty layered beneath the main melody. The track builds on opulent keyboard chords and deep bass, creating a space where emotion can breathe without rushing. Sampha's voice enters in the pre-chorus and chorus, doubling and echoing Solange's insistence that understanding matters. The repetition of "you've got to know" becomes both plea and demand, a recognition that some forms of closeness require being truly seen. The song moves between vulnerability and resolve, between the fear of the unknown and the hope that comes from trying anyway.

"Time (is)" is a track by Solange, from the album When I Get Home, released 1st March 2019. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

Time (is)

[Intro: Solange]

Oh, no

No, no

No, no

No, no

No, no

[Verse: Solange & Tyler, the Creator]

I was getting to feel

All the way (By the way you comb your hair)

Keepin' it real

"Give your all," you would say to me

Only way to know your heart (If I call you now)

And it gives me hope for the trials

And the fear of the unknown that moves too close (Real close)

But we gotta go

Yeah, we gotta go

But the way to do it

Just (Yay)

Do us just

Then you’ll know

Go

[Refrain: Solange]

You gotta know

You gotta know

You gotta know

You gotta know

You gotta know

You gotta know

You gotta know

You gotta know

You gotta know

[Pre-Chorus: Solange & Sampha]

Ooh, ooh, know (Tried to let it go)

Ooh, ooh, know (Tell me where you go)

Ooh, ooh, know (Tell me where you are)

Ooh, ooh, know (Tell me where's the storm)

Ooh, ooh, know (Tell me drive this out your mind)

Ooh, ooh, know (I was only yours)

Ooh, ooh, know (I was only yours)

[Chorus: Solange & Sampha]

You've got to know (You’ve got to know)

You've got to know (You've got to know)

You've got to know (You've got to know)

You've got to know (You've got to know)

You've got to know (You’ve got to know)

You’ve got to know (You've got to know)

You’ve got to know (You've got to know)

(He's got to know)

You've got to know (You’ve got to know)

You've got to-

[Outro]

Ohh, ohh

Yeah, ohh, ahh
