About This Track

'Wasted' by Tomberlin is an alternative track from the EP 'Projections - EP', released in 2020. The lyrics move through a push and pull of closeness and self-justification, with the image of something kept close in a locket. Against that caretaking idea, the song turns accusatory and pleading, asking why affection only shows up when the other person is wasted, then insisting, "Please don't be indifferent". The repeated focus on difference and on being singled out for a certain state gives the track an intimate, anxious edge.

"Wasted" is a single by Tomberlin, from the album Projections - EP, released 15th October 2020. The track is 2:29 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 3 articles about Tomberlin.

Lyrics

Wasted

I tried to keep it close
Keep it in a locket
Ain't no one can stop it
Can you tell the difference?
I can tell the difference
Maybe you're the difference
Please don't be indifferent
I could make it different

How come you only say I'm cute when you're wasted?
Baby, don't waste it
Well, maybe you could waste it
I run my mouth and it runs me over
Don't come closer, don't come closer
I'm super glue it's nothing new, you try to break it
Hoping nothing's coming
Can't you see I'm running?

I try to write it out
Make sure nothing sounds weird
Make sure it's not half bad
Do you think this song's sad?
You made me smile
But could you spell it out for me?
You say you shouldn't have to
I know you shouldn't have to
