About This Track

Rivers Cuomo wrote this song in spring 1996 whilst attending Harvard, near the end of the recording cycle for 'Pinkerton'. The lyrics capture a man caught between the pull of romantic attachment and the fear of losing his independence, framed through self-deprecating humour and genuine vulnerability. He oscillates between resistance and surrender, imagining both escape and domestic compromise with the same person, his anxiety about the mismatch between them ("what could you possibly see in, little of 3-chord me?") undercut by the physical certainty of attraction. The song builds its emotional weight through repetition and directness. A simple chorus anchors the track: the admission of being "afraid I'm falling for you", paired with the half-joking, half-serious choice between running or staying. Cuomo's delivery moves between self-aware comedy and genuine longing, the arrangement spare enough to let the conflict breathe. It's a love song that refuses easy sentiment, instead treating romance as a crisis to be negotiated rather than celebrated.

"Falling for You" is a track by Weezer, released 23rd August 1996. The track is 3:48 long. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 19 articles about Weezer.

Lyrics

Falling for You

Holy cow, I think I've got one here
Now just what am I supposed to do?
I've got a number of irrational fears
That I'd like to share with you
First, there's rules about old goats like me
Hanging around with chicks like you
But I do like you and another one
You say like too much

But I'm shaking at your touch
I like you way too much
My baby, I'm afraid I'm falling for you
I'd do about anything to get the hell out alive
Or maybe I would rather settle down with you

Holy moly, baby, wouldn't you know it?
Just as I was busting loose
I gotta go turn in my rock star card
And get fat and old with you
'Cause I'm a burning candle you're a gentle moth
Teaching me to lick a little bit kinder
And I do like you, you're the lucky one
No, I'm the lucky one

I'm shaking at your touch
I like you way too much
My baby, I'm afraid I'm falling for you
I'd do about anything to get the hell out alive
Or maybe I would rather settle down with you

Holy sweet, Goddamn, you left your cello in the basement
I admired the glowing stars and tried to play a tune
I can't believe how bad I suck, it's true
What could you possibly see in, little of 3-chord me?
But I do like you and you like me too
I'm ready, let's do it baby

I'm shaking at your touch
I like you way too much
My baby, I'm afraid I'm falling for you
I'd do about anything to get the hell out alive
Or maybe I would rather settle down (down)
With you (you)
Down, (down)
With you (you)
