About This Track

‘Surrender’ by Will Butler is a rock track from the album ‘Generations’, released in 2020. The lyrics place a speaker in a conversational tangle, repeating uncertain recollections and a bargain for honesty, before settling on the idea of surrender. The vocal delivery, with its back-and-forth phrasing, reads like someone trying to square “I could tell you the truth” with the limits of what they can say.

"Surrender" is a single by Will Butler, from the album Generations, released 24th September 2020. The track is 3:49 long. It's filed under Rock. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 4 articles about Will Butler.

Lyrics

Surrender

Remember? (I don't know)
You told me (maybe so)
That you wanted (I don't know)
To surrender

Remember? (I don't know)
You told me (maybe so)
You were looking (I don't know)
For something higher

Well, I remember it all
I could tell you the truth
I could what I told
But I'm so tired, I'm so tired now
I'm so tired and sick of thinking about you
No, no, no, child
I wish you were outta my head

Remember (I don't know)
We were walking (maybe so)
By the river (I don't know)
It was freezing

Remember (I don't know)
We were talking (maybe so)
And you were smiling (I don't know)
And you loved me

Well, I remember it all
And I could tell you the truth
I could what I told
But I'm so tired, I'm so tired now
I'm so tired of thinking, thinking about you
No, no, no, child
Stay away from my dreams

Remember? (I don't know)
You told me (maybe so)
That you wanted (I don't know)
To surrender
Oh, please surrender

Remember? (I don't know)
You told me (maybe so)
That you wanted (I don't know)
To surrender
Oh, please surrender
Oh, please surrender
Oh, surrender to something

C'mon surrender to something
The world's bigger than we are
The world's bigger than we are
We gotta break through the circle
We gotta see how we've broken
I gotta tell you I'm sorry
I gotta tell you I'm sorry
'Cause I've been talking all night
Oh, I've been talking all night
Oh, I've been talking all night
Oh, I've been talking all night

Oh, I've been talking all (night, night, night)
Oh, I've been talking all (night, night, night)
Oh, I've been talking all (night, night, night)
Oh, I've been talking all (night, night, night)
