A single from the New York trio's debut full-length 'Fever to Tell', released in 2003. The song was written by Brian Chase, Karen O, and Nick Zinner, and issued in the UK by Polydor in September 2003 before Interscope handled US distribution in February 2004. The band performed it at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards.
The lyric is a looped plea of devotion, Karen O repeating "Wait, they don't love you like I love you" around a sparse framework of guitar and drums. The repetition builds urgency rather than monotony, the chorus title landing like punctuation. The song concerns the relationship between O and Liars frontman Angus Andrew, the rawness audible in the delivery.
Its reach has proved durable: the track has accumulated nearly 300 million streams on Spotify, a testament to the plainness of its emotional architecture. The formula is minimal but the impact persists.
"Maps" is a single by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, from the album Fever to Tell, released 27th April 2003. The track is 3:40 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
