About This Track

'Blacktop' by Yeah Yeah Yeahs is a 2022 alternative track from the album 'Cool It Down'. The lyrics set up a night-time drive, with thunder and the blacktop carrying the momentum as a relationship tightens into a close, one-to-one dance. There is an undercurrent of pressure and pain, but the words also turn towards release, repeated openings and a surrendering cadence. A single image of youth and mercy frames the end, lending the whole piece a confessional edge, summed up by the line “Blacktop rolling under God”.

"Blacktop" is a track by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, from the album Cool It Down, released 29th September 2022. The track is 4:24 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 13 articles about Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Lyrics

Blacktop

Thunder lights the road
Blacktop rolling under God
Now we're dancing close
One to one as our bodies lock
One to one, we sway
On our way home
One to one, we sway
And all the pain flows
Open, open
Opened up
Open, open
Opened up
Oh, as I was young and easy
In the mercy of his means
Time held me green and dying
Though I sang in my chains
Like the sea
One to one, we sway
One to one, home
One to one, we sway
And all the pain flows, flows
Hello, hold on
'Til the love is gone
Hello, hold on
'Til the love is gone
Hello, hold on
'Til the love is gone
Gone home, home
