Kim Gordon has released 'Bye Bye 25!' featuring banned Trump-era words

Kim Gordon reworks 'BYE BYE' to include Trump-banned words, with proceeds supporting reproductive rights through NOISE FOR NOW.

Kim Gordon has released 'BYE BYE 25!', a reworked version of 'BYE BYE' from her second solo album 'The Collective'. The new version features words that have been censored by the Trump administration, with proceeds from both the song and accompanying merchandise being donated to reproductive rights nonprofit NOISE FOR NOW.

The track arrives following Gordon's recent GRAMMY nominations for both 'BYE BYE' and 'The Collective' at the 2025 ceremony. The new version has been released alongside a video directed by Vice Cooler and Gordon herself.

"Justin Raisen had this idea to redo 'Bye Bye' starting at the end of the song. When I was thinking of lyric ideas, it occurred to me to use words taken from a site that had all the words that Trump has essentially banned, meaning any grant or piece of a project or proposal for research that includes any of those words would be immediately disregarded or 'cancelled.' I guess Trump does believe in cancel culture, because he is literally trying to cancel culture," Gordon explains.

The reworked version incorporates terms that have begun to disappear under Trump's policies, including words such as 'advocate', 'climate change', 'immigrants', and 'mental health'. These restrictions have affected multiple government organisations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and NASA.

NOISE FOR NOW, the beneficiary of the release's proceeds, works to connect artists with grassroots organisations focused on reproductive health, rights and justice.
