The Beths have announced their fourth album 'Straight Line Was A Lie'
New Zealand indie band The Beths explore personal growth and existential themes on their upcoming fourth album, due August 29th.
The Beths are set to release their fourth album 'Straight Line Was A Lie' via ANTI- Records on 29th August, alongside sharing new single 'No Joy'.
The New Zealand quartet - Elizabeth Stokes, Jonathan Pearce, Benjamin Sinclair, and Tristan Deck - explore themes of existential vertigo and cyclical personal growth on their latest full-length. The album follows their 2022 release 'Expert In A Dying Field'.
"Linear progression is an illusion," Stokes says. "What life really is is maintenance. But you can find meaning in the maintenance."
The band's new single 'No Joy' addresses Stokes's experience with SSRIs. "It's about anhedonia, which, paradoxically, was there both in the worst parts of depression, and then also when I was feeling pretty numb on my SSRI," she says. "It wasn't that I was sad, I was feeling pretty good. It was just that I didn't like the things that I liked. I wasn't getting joy from them. It's very literal."
