Doves are an English indie rock band formed in 1998 in Wilmslow, Cheshire. The band consists of singer and bassist Jimi Goodwin and twin brothers Jez and Andy Williams, who play guitar and drums respectively. Before adopting the name Doves, the members performed as Sub Sub, a dance act with a 1993 hit. As Doves, they released six studio albums between 2000 and 2025, three of which reached number one on the UK albums chart. Their singles include "There Goes the Fear," which reached number three in 2002, and "Black and White Town," which reached number six in 2005. Their debut album, Lost Souls, was released in 2000 and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Their second album, The Last Broadcast, was their first UK number-one record. The band entered a hiatus in 2010, during which Goodwin pursued a solo career and the Williams brothers formed the band Black Rivers. Doves reformed in 2018, performed shows in 2019, and released the album The Universal Want in 2020.
