About Spice Girls

The Spice Girls are a British girl group formed in 1994, comprising Mel B ("Scary Spice"), Melanie C ("Sporty Spice"), Emma Bunton ("Baby Spice"), Geri Halliwell ("Ginger Spice"), and Victoria Beckham ("Posh Spice"). They have sold over 100 million records globally, making them the best-selling girl group of all time. The group promoted the "girl power" mantra and redefined the girl group concept by appealing to a young female audience. They contributed to the teen pop resurgence of the 1990s and were prominent figures during the Cool Britannia era. The group was initially assembled by Heart Management through auditions to compete with British boy bands. After parting ways with Heart, they hired Simon Fuller as their manager and signed with Virgin Records. Their debut single, 'Wannabe', was released in 1996 and reached number one in 37 countries. Their debut album, 'Spice', also released in 1996, sold more than 23 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling album by a female group.
