The Rapture is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1998. The original lineup included Luke Jenner (lead vocals, guitar), Vito Roccoforte (drums, percussion), and Gabriel Andruzzi (keyboards, bass, saxophone, percussion). Between 1999 and 2009, Mattie Safer joined the band, playing bass and sharing lead vocal duties with Jenner. Their harmonized choruses became a signature element of their sound. The band incorporated influences from genres such as dance-punk, post-punk, acid house, disco, and electronica. They are considered part of the early 2000s dance-punk revival, blending post-punk with electronic and dance music. The band has acknowledged that their music draws on themes of Christianity. Their discography began with the release of the mini-album 'Mirror' in January 1999 under Gravity Records. In 2001, they signed with Sub Pop and released the EP 'Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks.' In 2002, they released the song 'House of Jealous Lovers' through DFA Records.
