The Wildhearts are an English rock band formed in 1989 in Newcastle upon Tyne. The band's sound combines elements of hard rock and melodic pop music, with influences described as ranging from the Beatles to 1980s-era Metallica. They achieved several top 20 singles and two top 10 albums in Britain. The band experienced difficulties with record companies and internal problems related to drugs and depression. Much of their early career was affected by disputes with their record label, East West. Throughout their history, band members have been frequently replaced, with Ginger, the band's founder, singer, and guitarist, remaining the only constant member. Several members have rejoined the band at different times. The Wildhearts have undergone periods of breakup and hiatus, often initiated by Ginger. In the 2010s, they occasionally reunited for anniversary tours. A 2018 tour with the 1995 lineup led to a return to recording, resulting in a new album in 2019 after a ten-year break. Their most recent album, Satanic Rites of the Wildhearts, was released in March 2025.
