So this is a commentary for Homeland Insecurity
So I didn't have any extra songs for this era of music
As it was, uh, our sophomore record
And, as they say, you have your entire life to write your first album
And you have eighteen months to write every record after that, and so, I was—
It was like trying to squeeze blood from a stone getting all these songs, uh, finished
And luckily, I had some help from my wife, Kaitlin Butts
That helped me finish a few of these songs
And, uh, so yeah, there's not any extra tunes
In this era 'cause it was just, uh—
I barely had enough to get that done, and I really—
It was during this time, though, that— however, it pushed me to learn the craft and reopen up a book
And learn about songwriting and other songwriters
And so I started buying books during this era
And songs like "Come Back Down" and "Pretty Women" and "Sleeping Alone" started to pour out of me
