Boomtown goes full H₂O: festival unveils hydrogen-powered main stage for 2026
It’s part of Boomtown’s wider ‘Radical Redesign’ plans.

Boomtown is scaling up its hydrogen-powered ambitions for 2026, turning last year’s experimental HYDRO stage into a full 20,000-capacity main arena.
Now dubbed HYDRO XL, the stage moves into Downtown’s former Origins spot and will run entirely on green hydrogen, using fuel cell technology to deliver emission-free power across sound, lighting and production.
Set for 12th–16th August at Matterley Estate, the expanded stage will also host parts of the festival’s opening and closing ceremonies. The line-up leans heavily electronic, with Skrillex, Four Tet, Floating Points (Live) and Groove Armada joined by DJ EZ, Marlon Hoffstadt, Brutalismus 3000, 999999999 (AV show), Sherelle (AV show) and Notion.
It’s part of Boomtown’s wider ‘Radical Redesign’ plans, aiming to prove that large-scale festivals can run on zero-carbon energy without compromising on spectacle.
Also playing the event this year are Kneecap, Scissor Sisters, Madness, Ashnikko, BIG SPECIAL, Gurriers, Lynks, Peaches, Panic Shack and loads more.
