Jack Black and Dave Grohl team up to cover Rush’s ‘The Spirit of Radio’ for the Hanukkah Sessions

The session was part of a nine-song set from Grohl and Kurstin with a slew of special guests.

Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl and producer Greg Kurstin have shared the seventh instalment of their 2022 Hanukkah Sessions. Joining the roster this time around is Jack Black, who performed Rush‘s ‘The Spirit of Radio’ with an audience at the 250-capacity venue Largo in Los Angeles.

In a note accompanying the release, Grohl wrote, “Geddy Lee’s mother was so proud of her son that she put Rush posters up all over their family store and gave away Rush albums to kids who didn’t have money to buy them. In tribute to that proud Jewish mother, we give you — free of charge— ‘The Spirit Of Radio’ featuring Jack Black!”

The session was part of a nine-song set from Grohl and Kurstin with a slew of special guests. All profits earned from ticket sales were donated to the Anti-Defamation League. Other tracks from the session included a cover of Blood, Sweat & Tears’ ‘Spinning Wheel’ featuring Judd Apatow, P!nk’s rendition of her own ‘Get The Party Started’, a take on 10cc’s ‘The Things We Do For Love’ with Inara George, and Grohl’s daughter Violet joining him on a cover of Janis Ian’s ‘At Seventeen’.

Beck made an appearance on a rendition of his own ‘E-Pro’, while Karen O performed Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ ‘Heads Will Roll’. Still to come in the series is a version of Randy Newman’s ‘I Love LA’ (renamed ‘We Love LA’) and the David Lee Roth version of ‘Just A Gigolo’.
