King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have shared a new single, ‘Iron Lung’, alongside an unpredictable video accompaniment

‘Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs Mushrooms And Lava’ is out this Friday, October 7th, via KGLW.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have shared ‘Iron Lung’, a nine-minute storm of chaos, as the second single from their new record.

It follows ‘Ice V’ as the latest cut from ‘Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs Mushrooms And Lava’ – a seven-track album due this Friday, October 7th, via KGLW.

The record is the first of three new albums that the band has announced for release this October; ‘Laminated Denim’ will drop on October 12th, with ‘Changes’ following on October 28th.

The new single is accurately described as a “kaleidoscopic blend” of the band’s various instruments and talents – “‘Iron Lung’ (along with the other songs off this record) is the ultimate collab,” says frontman Stu Mackenzie. “We wrote the lyrics as a group and created the music out of improvisation. Spontaneous creation. The best kind. And that’s why I’m proud of it. Hope you dig.”

SPOD elaborates on the freeform video he created to stand with the song: “When I heard this track I had just started delving into fully animated AI videos and thought what a good opportunity to use something I barely understand mixed with my love of effects from the dawn of digital video.  So I poured myself into a cyber spiral for a couple of months and this is the result.

“I love how the song seems like endless ascending & descending cycles culminating in these dramatic explosions and lifts, so it felt like a perfect fit to dive into a 9-minute descent to hell and back,” he adds. “Unfortunately, I still dream that I’m spiraling into the eternal abyss and I’m not sure I exist anymore.”

You can listen to ‘Iron Lung’ alongside the extremely trippy visual accompaniment below:

The tracklist for ‘Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs Mushrooms And Lava’ reads as follows:

1. Mycelium
2. Ice V
3. Magma
4. Lava
5. Hell’s Itch
6. Iron Lung
7. Gliese 710

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are on tour across the US this month, with shows in New Zealand and Australia before the end of the year.
