Lana Del Rey has unveiled 'First Light', her contribution to the soundtrack of IO Interactive's forthcoming James Bond video game. Working alongside veteran Bond composer David Arnold, whose credits include Casino Royale and Tomorrow Never Dies, Del Rey recorded the track as the official theme for 007: First Light.
IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series, are developing the game as an original origin story for the iconic spy. Patrick Gibson takes on the role of James Bond, with a supporting cast featuring Lenny Kravitz as Bawma The Pirate King, Priyanga Burford as M, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Kiera Lester as Miss Moneypenny, Noemie Nakia as Miss Roth, and Lennie James as John Greenway. DJ Dimitri Vegas has also been confirmed as part of the cast, contributing a remix of the classic Bond theme to the game's soundtrack. A launch on Xbox, PlayStation and PC is scheduled for 27th May, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version arriving later this year.
Rumours of Del Rey's involvement first surfaced when 'First Light' appeared in a registration with the American Society Of Composers, Authors And Publishers. The singer has long had a connection to the Bond franchise — back in 2024, she revealed that she had written a theme for 2015's Spectre before the role ultimately went to Sam Smith with 'Writing's On The Wall'. Radiohead similarly submitted a track for that film's soundtrack, later releasing it for free.
Previously discussing her desire to record a Bond song in a BBC interview, Del Rey said: "How has it not happened yet. One day maybe. But I'm going to continue to do my little Nancy Sinatra thing every now and then and just pretend that it's the title track."
Del Rey has a new album on the horizon. 'Stove', which underwent several title changes from 'Lasso' to 'The Right Person Will Stay', is expected later this year after she pushed back the release to include additional material. Three singles — 'Henry, Come On', 'Bluebird' and 'White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter' — have already been shared from the record.
