Lola Young has released her new single '
From Down Here', arriving as her first piece of music since stepping back from her career in September.
Credited as created with James Blake, the song unfolds across a dreamy, synth-driven backdrop, with lyrics that turn inward and examine the period the singer-songwriter has just spent away from the spotlight.
Things had moved quickly for Young towards the end of 2024, when '
Messy' — a track from 'This Wasn't Meant for You Anyways' — gained traction on social media before climbing charts around the world, opening up touring and festival opportunities.
That trajectory was interrupted by a difficult run of live shows. At
Coachella in 2025 she briefly left the stage mid-set appearing unwell, and a London Summertime Ball appearance was disrupted by equipment problems. A scheduled Tonight Show performance was pulled in July 2025, and she has since spoken about working with a sobriety coach.
Third album 'I'm Only Fucking Myself' followed in September 2025. A New Jersey date was scrapped just days after the record arrived, and later that same month Young collapsed during a set at
All Things Go NYC, prompting her decision to take time out. She stepped back onto the stage in January, and during a Rolling Stone interview in March she opened up about her alcoholism and the addiction treatment she undertook in 2025.
February saw her take home the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance, with a televised rendition of 'Messy' as part of her Best New Artist nomination. Live appearances at All Things Go NYC in September and
Austin City Limits in October are on the cards.
