MAY-A has put her own stamp on a Stevie Nicks classic for triple j's Like a Version

MAY-A has taken on Stevie Nicks' 1981 track 'Edge of Seventeen' for triple j's Like a Version, reimagining the song with a heavy, guitar-driven arrangement that departed significantly from the original.
Performing alongside her live band, the Sydney artist began with a stripped-back vocal approach before shifting into distortion-heavy territory for the second half, which featured both guitar and bass solos. Guitarist and collaborator Chloe Dadd played a key role in piecing the arrangement together during rehearsals.
"When we started playing around with the idea of this song, we just played it in so many different ways," MAY-A said. "And my guitarist Chloe, she sort of built out the tracks."
Choosing to cover a Stevie Nicks track was intentional, rooted in an admiration for how the Fleetwood Mac co-founder addresses themes of grief. "I haven't seen someone write about grief and loss in such a powerful and strong way," she said, calling the quality "unique and inspiring."
