Olivia Rodrigo has given a first glimpse of '
Drop Dead', which will serve as the lead single from her forthcoming third studio album '
You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love'.
Posted to Instagram, the brief clip centres on Rodrigo seated in a pub with three glasses of Guinness on the table in front of her. Her face remains out of frame, though a button reading the phrase 'super sweet' is visible on her coat. Fluttery, percussive synths provide the musical backdrop, cutting off just as Rodrigo takes a breath. Pink text overlaid on the footage reads 'I hope you never finish that beer'.
The album, due in June, follows 2023's '
Guts' and is described as being full of love songs with an inherently sad quality. Speaking to British Vogue in March, Rodrigo said, "I realized all my favorite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them. Falling in love, [I thought] that the second I'm in a really great relationship, I'm gonna start feeling good about myself, and this stuff is going to fall into place. But it just doesn't work like that."
