Self Esteem has released ‘Maggie’s Song’ from her West End role as Maggie Frisby
Track penned for David Hare play arrives ahead of busy festival summer.

Half a century ago, Dame Helen Mirren originated the role of Frisby at the Royal Court. The character fronts a fictional outfit called The Skins, with the action unfolding over a single night in 1969 as the band gear up to play three sets at a Cambridge University ball. Their early counterculture fervour has curdled into disillusionment and debt, leaving Maggie to face the chaos with little more than alcohol, anger and her voice.
While the play retains the original songs by Nick and Tony Bicât, it also incorporates fresh material written for the revival, with 'Maggie's Song' among Taylor's contributions.
Taylor said of the new track: "Writing Maggie's song was a vital part of the process of 'Teeth 'n' Smiles'. I like to think Maggie would be a big Self Esteem fan. While she spends the play performing songs written by men, here, for the first time she has her voice, uncompromised. It was wonderful to experience that feeling again though the character."
The play's run concludes on 6th June 2026. From there, Taylor pivots back to her musical work, with a packed summer of outdoor concerts and festival appearances ahead, taking in headline slots at Cardiff Castle and Brighton Pride along with support dates alongside Florence + The Machine and Pulp.
