villagerrr has released ‘Carousel’, a homespun preview of his new LP

Ohio songwriter Mark Scott, recording as villagerrr, has released the title track from forthcoming album 'Carousel'. The LP arrives on 29th May through Winspear, marking the project's first full-length on the label.

Speaking about the new single, Scott said: "'Carousel' just felt like a good jumping off point for the loose concept of the album. Lyrically I don't know if it has much to do with the rest of it, but it feels like it sets the stage for a new world really nicely. As for the song itself, I recorded it in my basement, and you can tell."

Representing Scott's fifth LP under the villagerrr name, the record took shape across a two-year period. Working from his home in Columbus, Scott built out song structures before enlisting friends he had met through touring to contribute, including Boone Patrello of Teethe.

Reflecting on the collaborative process, Scott added: "I got really excited about how many of my friends were down to play on this album. I didn't grow up around a lot of musicians. Now, even after just a few years of playing shows, I've met so many people who are all trying to play with each other. If you make something that they like, and you like their stuff, it's as easy as reaching out and asking if they want to collaborate."
