White Lung take to the stage for their 'Below' video and a room full of Marilyn Monroe lookalikes aren't best pleased. Maybe it's because the song is so confrontational yet beautiful, forcing you to look inside and question the way you're living your life.
"“Below” is my Stevie-Nicks-meets-Celine Dion ballad," explains Mish Barber-Way. "I needed to try to do a ballad about glamorous women. It’s based on a quote by Camille Paglia from an interview she did a few years ago in Toronto. 'Beauty fades. Beauty is transient. That is why we value it,' she said. 'Feminism’s failure to acknowledge that beauty is a value in itself, that even if a woman manages to achieve it for a particular moment, she has contributed something to the culture.' It’s a song about the preservation of glamour and beauty." The track is lifted from White Lung's very excellent 'Paradise', which is out May 6th. The band have a bunch of live dates coming up. White Lung will play: MAY 06 Toronto, ON, Velvet Underground 07 Brooklyn, NY, Baby’s All Right 24 Brighton, Green Door Store 25 Bristol, Start The Bus 26 London, The Victoria 27 Birmingham, The Flapper 28 Leeds, Brudenell Games Room 29 Manchester, Star & Garter 31 Paris, Point Ephemere JUNE 01 Liege, La Zone 02 The Hague, Paard 03 Amsterdam, Paradiso JULY 22 Oro-Medonte, ON, Way Home Festival 29-31 Montreal, QC, Osheaga Festival
