About This Track
Aminé retreats into solitude on 'Charmander', a track built around the image of self-imposed isolation. The refrain stakes out the position clearly: kept to himself, staying out of the way, living on an island of his own making. His complaint is with phoniness, with the way people operate, and his response is withdrawal. Energy, he insists, is priceless, and he's not spending it on those he sees as false. The production sits sparse and contemplative, letting Aminé's voice occupy the space. The video, co-directed by Aminé and Jack Begert, literalises the conceit, trapping him in a wooded cabin with minimal company and his dog for comfort.
