About This Track

'Afterlife' by BENEE is an alternative track from the album 'Fire on Marzz - EP' (2019). The lyrics paint a claustrophobic, confrontational scenario, with the speaker trapped in a false choice between resistance and surrender, body and mind separating as “a silver gun” turns the moment grotesquely intimate. There are blank walls and two competing scenes, but no escape route, only a feeling of shutdown and descent. The overall tone is panicked and accusatory, as if the question of survival is also a question of identity being rewritten.
