'Wishful Thinking' catches BENEE in the grip of an old longing, one she'd held onto for some time before bringing it into the studio. The song turns on a simple, painful truth: distance and the passage of time have made closeness impossible. She remembers everything he said, but those days are gone now, and there's no way to reach him when she's low. The chorus settles into its refrain with quiet resignation, the wanting itself reframed as nothing more than daydreaming. What lifts the track from straightforward heartbreak is the production's restraint and the vocal performance in its bridge. High, almost angelic harmonies drift over warped guitar that drones and softly overwhelms, creating a space where longing feels both intimate and distant at once. It's a small song about a large absence, built on the recognition that some people leave too soon, and some feelings linger long after they've stopped making sense.
