About This Track

'2am' by Cavetown is a 2013 track from 'Everything is Made of Clouds'. Over an instrumental intro, the lyrics find a strained, late-night tenderness, with a narrator urging someone to close their eyes despite insomnia and the fear of “monsters”. The verse moves through images of repeated failure, learning coming too late, and a reassurance that the trouble is not the dark things imagined. The closing note is apologetic, caught between wanting to help and not being able to.

"2am" is a track by Cavetown, from the album Everything is Made of Clouds, released 19th September 2013. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Cavetown.

Lyrics

2am

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]

Crash and burn, someday we'll learn

But for now, we can't get it right

Nothing hurts, you're in reverse

So just close your eyes tonight

When you can't sleep at night

It's not because you have monsters hiding under your bed

I'm so sorry I can't make it right

'Cause dear, the demons you're afraid of live inside of your head

[Verse 2]

Please, please come home

I'm so tired of sleeping all alone

There's nothing left of me anymore

I'm just lying in a heap of your old clothes on the floor

I'm a mess, a damn disgrace

Just a ghost with your face on the wall

[Outro]

(Ooh, ooh, ooh)

(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
