About This Track

A hidden track that emerges near the end of the album, 'Damone' finds Deftones in a state of emotional exhaustion. The lyrics circle around shame and regret, with Chino Moreno's voice carrying a weary resignation as he repeats the refrain "so far, I've been down, that's true". The song builds its tension through repetition rather than dynamics, the post-chorus dissolving into a series of unanswered questions that feel less like inquiry and more like resignation. What makes 'Damone' linger is its refusal to resolve. The relationship at its centre offers only one reprieve: "except for your arms". Everything else, the stinging eyes, the falling sensation, the accumulated disappointment, remains unresolved. By the final verse, affection has curdled into something harder. The track ends not with catharsis but with a kind of worn-out acceptance, the questioning continuing long after any answer might have mattered.
