About This Track

'Tempest' unfolds as a sprawling, enchanting piece that moves between brutal force and epic atmospherics. Chino Moreno's voice drifts across layers of guitar and rhythm that build and recede, the song structured around cycles and stasis, a speaker caught in repetition and searching for a way through. The lyrics pivot between exhortation and exhaustion, urging someone to shed inherited narratives and reach for something just beyond grasp, even as the music circles back on itself. The track carries an apocalyptic undertone, a sense of ending and transformation woven through its six-minute arc. What emerges is less a conventional song than a landscape to inhabit, one where the listener is invited to stare upward and inward at once, to taste something ripe and thrust forward into whatever comes next.

"Tempest" is a single by Deftones, from the album Koi No Yokan, released 9th November 2012. The track is 6:05 long. It's filed under Hard Rock. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 14 articles about Deftones.

Lyrics

Tempest

Take
Out the stories
They've put into your mind and brace
For the glory
As you stare into the sky. The sky beneath
I know you can't be tired.
Lay there
Stare at the ceiling
And switch back to your time just go ahead now try and taste it I know it should be ripe... thrust... ahead.

Turning in circles
Been caught in a stasis
The ancient arrival
Cut to the end
I'd like to be taken
Apart from the inside
Then spit through the cycle right to the end

I wonder just how you shaped it
To get back to your prize... thrust.ahead
Turning in circles
Been caught in a stasis
The ancient arrival
Cut to the end
I'd like to be taken
Apart from the inside
Then spit through the cycle right to the end

Wake for the glory
I know you can't be tired
