About This Track

'Blem' appears as the seventh track on Drake's 2017 playlist-project 'More Life', built over a sample of Lionel Richie's 'All Night Long'. The production, handled by T-Minus, leans into the Afro-Caribbean textures that run through the record, Drake's flow carrying the same island-inflected cadence he adopts on 'Madiba Riddim' elsewhere in the tracklist.

The lyric pivots on intoxicated candour, the title slang for a state of inebriation that loosens the tongue. Drake addresses a partner caught between him and an ex he dismisses as a wasteman, the refrain cycling through frustration and tentative promises: plans for islands, gold instead of spray tans, a house being built where he was raised. The repetition of 'I might just say how I feel' frames the song as confession deferred, the honesty always conditional on the high.

The outro samples Richie's voice a second time, the 'together forever' refrain lifted cleanly but landing as irony against the verses' admission that permanence isn't possible when 'you're crazy sometimes / And I only see you sometimes'.
