About This Track

Amy Lee wrote this portrait of emotional entanglement, drawing partly on a short story by guitarist Ben Moody. The song moves between two voices, one watching and wanting, the other caught between fear and attachment, unable to break free. Lee's lyrics fold intimacy and violation into the same breath, the tension unresolved. The track sits at the centre of Evanescence's debut album, a moment of stillness within the record's larger architecture. It builds from whispered confession into something heavier, Lee's voice carrying the weight of someone who knows they are being held by forces they cannot quite name or escape.
