About This Track

'Radical' opens Future's mixtape Monster with a production choice that announces itself at once: a sound like the stirring of something vast and dormant. The track sets the stage for what follows, an exploration into addiction and the wreckage of a significant relationship. Future moves through the verses with the confidence of someone unconcerned with restraint, cataloguing designer labels and altered states in a voice that suggests both boasting and confession at once. The chorus locks onto a single refrain, repeated and varied until it becomes almost hypnotic, a mantra of defiance and excess. Metro Boomin's production sits underneath it all, heavy and deliberate, the kind of beat that demands repetition. This is Future at the point where he was being rechristened as the king of the toxic-rap banger, and 'Radical' makes clear why that title stuck.

"Radical" is a track by Future, from the album Monster, released 28th October 2014. Full lyrics are available below.
