About This Track

A poison-pen letter wrapped in orchestral grandeur, 'MUD' finds GIVĒON settling accounts with an ex who's rewritten their shared history to suit herself. Surging strings create high-drama atmosphere whilst his supple croon delivers the accusation with measured precision: she's run his name through the mud, lied to herself so convincingly the falsehood sounds true. The song moves between indictment and hurt, cataloguing the small betrayals of a relationship unravelled, from emotional blackmail to the theft of intimacy itself. What makes the track sting is its refusal to shout. GIVĒON stays composed even as he names the cost, the arrangement's cushioning strings never allowing the song to tip into bitterness. Instead it becomes something more durable: a record of what was lost, and a clear-eyed statement that he sees through the narrative she's constructed. The song lets listeners know that being wronged and being silenced about it are two different things.
