About This Track

'the fall' is half•alive's first single, a song about the terror of vulnerability. The narrator stands at the edge of emotional exposure, ready to surrender to another person but paralysed by the fear of what happens next. The central image is one of falling, of jumping into someone's arms without knowing whether they will catch you. It's the gap between the decision to trust and the actual moment of trust that the song inhabits, that space where you've already committed but safety still feels impossible. The lyrics work through metaphors of exposure: words that won't come, surgery with blinding lights, opening your chest to show your heart. Each one captures a different register of the same fear. Once you've said something out loud, the song insists, you can't take it back. The melody carries this tension between surrender and dread, the vocal line reaching upward even as the words confess doubt. It's a song about the cost of honesty, and the strange courage it takes to hand yourself over to another person.

Lyrics

the fall

[Verse 1]

These words are supposed to be simple

But it seems that's not the case

This page is staring back at me

I'm afraid to put a mark on its face

[Pre-Chorus]

Oh, I'm just trying to introduce you

To this idea that I've grown used to

It's like sharing a dream with someone

Once you say it out loud, it can't be undone

[Chorus]

I jump off and into your arms

But I can't trust the fall

Take my voice, I'm giving it though

I don't feel safe at all

I can't trust the fall

[Verse 2]

It's like waking up in surgery

I can't seem to see right past the lights and I'm

So scared to take a knife to my chest

Let you see the heart that's inside

[Pre-Chorus]

Oh, I'm just trying to introduce you

To this idea that I've grown used to

It's like sharing a dream with someone

Once you say it out loud, it can't be undone

Once you say it out loud, it can't be undone (I can't trust the fall)

[Chorus]

I jump off and into your arms

But I can't trust the fall

Take my voice, I'm giving it though

I don't feel safe at all

I jump off and into your arms

But I can't trust the fall

Take my voice, I'm giving it though

I don't feel safe at all

[Bridge]

I can't trust the fall

I can't trust the fall

It's like sharing a dream with someone

Once you say it out loud, it can't be undone

I can't trust the fall

[Interlude]

Ooh-wee-ooh

Ooh-wee-ooh

Ooh-wee-ooh

I can't trust the fall

[Chorus]

I jump off and into your arms

But I can't trust the fall (I can't trust the fall)

Take my voice, I'm giving it though

I don't feel safe at all (Don't feel safe at all)

I jump off and into your arms

But I can't trust the fall

Take my voice, I'm giving it though (I can't trust the fall)

I don't feel safe at all

[Outro]

It's like sharing a dream with someone

Once you say it out loud, it can't be undone

I can't trust the fall
