Ed Sheeran leads a call for £250m long-term music education funding in the UK
Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Coldplay, Stromzy and 500 others have signed an open letter demanding government funding to support UK music education and training initiatives.
About This Track
'Kiwi' closes the first half of Harry Styles' self-titled debut album with a portrait of New York City chaos and a woman who announces her pregnancy as a declaration of independence. The chorus, Styles sings, is her refusal to explain herself, the line delivered as equal parts provocation and dismissal. The verses sketch a figure who moves through the city with hard liquor and intellect, the Holland Tunnel reference anchoring the geography whilst the cactus in the black dress keeps the imagery surreal.
The track was released in May 2017 through Erskine and Columbia Records, later issued as the third and final single from the album that October. The production leans into garage-rock urgency, the arrangement built for live performance, and the lyric's repetition of the title phrase works as both hook and punchline. It remains one of the more visceral moments on a debut that otherwise favoured restraint.
"Kiwi" is a single by Harry Styles, from the album Harry Styles, released 11th May 2017. The track is 2:56 long. It's filed under Pop. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Harry Styles.
