About This Track
Hozier's 'Sedated' traces the contours of escapism through substance use and emotional numbness. The song moves between the rush of distraction and the creeping realisation that the mind has become unreachable, the heart atrophied. There's a particular ache in the gap between what the body does and what it feels: "free and young and we can feel none of it." The lyrics pivot on a pair of intimacies that have curdled. Two people nursing on habits that never quite deliver the promised sting, their senses dulled to the point of deafness. Hozier sketches this as a shared condition, a mutual drift, but also as something one half of the pair might still resist. The plea that closes the song, asking someone to pull away rather than pull deeper, suggests the song knows the cost of staying sedated.
"Sedated" is a single by Hozier, from the album Hozier, released 19th May 2014. The track is 3:28 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 7 articles about Hozier.
