About This Track
Kehlani's 'Keep On' is a study in cyclical hurt. The song traces a relationship caught in a loop of transgression and forgiveness, with Kehlani acknowledging her own failings, the ways she has not shown up, the promises she has broken, whilst simultaneously questioning why her partner continues to take her back. There is no triumph in the return, only a kind of resigned bewilderment at being chosen despite everything. The lyrics move between self-recrimination and a dawning acceptance that perhaps, in her partner's open arms, she might belong. It is a delicate balance: she owns her capacity to wound without excusing it, and she receives grace without fully understanding it. The repetition of the hook, "you just keep on taking me back", becomes both a plea and an indictment, a measure of devotion that feels less like love and more like a habit neither party can break.
