About This Track

'Praying' arrived in July 2017 as the lead single from Kesha's third album 'Rainbow', her first solo release in four years. The track was written as self-therapy following a period of profound personal crisis; in radio interviews, Kesha disclosed that the song addresses past suicidal thoughts, framing the act of discussing such emotions as both healthy and necessary. The lyric adopts a posture of hard-won resilience, Kesha crediting an abusive relationship for teaching her to fight for herself whilst wishing the perpetrator peace and change.

The vocal performance carries deliberate emotional weight, the melody built to accommodate both vulnerability and defiance. Kesha described the writing process as learning to let go, to trust that fate operates beyond individual control, and likened the song to the moment sunlight breaks through storm clouds to form a rainbow. The result is a statement of survival that holds onto hope without minimising the scale of what preceded it.

"Praying" is a single by Kesha, from the album Rainbow, released 10th August 2017. The track is 3:50 long. It's filed under Pop. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 5 articles about Kesha.

Lyrics

Praying

Well, you almost had me fooled
Told me that I was nothing without you
Oh, but after everything you've done
I can thank you for how strong I have become

'Cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell
I had to learn how to fight for myself
And we both know all the truth I could tell
I'll just say this is I wish you farewell

I hope you're somewhere praying, praying
I hope your soul is changing, changing
I hope you find your peace
Falling on your knees, praying

I'm proud of who I am
No more monsters, I can breathe again
And you said that I was done
Well, you were wrong and now the best is yet to come
'Cause I can make it on my own
And I don't need you, I found a strength I've never known
I've been thrown out, I've been burned
When I'm finished, they won't even know your name

You brought the flames and you put me through hell
I had to learn how to fight for myself
And we both know all the truth I could tell
I'll just say this is I wish you farewell

I hope you're somewhere praying, praying
I hope your soul is changing, changing
I hope you find your peace
Falling on your knees, praying

Oh, sometimes, I pray for you at night
Someday, maybe you'll see the light
Oh, some say, in life, you're gonna get what you give
But some things, only God can forgive

I hope you're somewhere praying, praying
I hope your soul is changing, changing
I hope you find your peace
Falling on your knees, praying
